Abstract
Various historical reports on the year of birth and age of Imam Sajjad in the event of Ashura have been quoted in various Shiite and Sunni sources, which has made it difficult to understand the historical course of the life of Imam Sajjad (as). Several different narratives have narrated on each of these two subjects, and analyzing them through historical studies is a suitable way to discuss them properly. This article tries to answer the question that which of the various researches about the birth and age of Imam Sajjad (as) in Karbala can reveal the possible truth? It seems that a misunderstanding of the report that Al-Waqidi has narrated about the year of Imam Sajjad (as)'s birth, as well as the mistakes that have been made about Imam Sajjad's teknonym as "Al-Asghar", have been the basis for these documentary distortions. Analyzing various reports from Shiite and Sunni sources show that the birth of Imam Sajjad (as) took place in the late fourth decade, i.e. 38 (AH) and he was 23 years old in the event of Karbala. These are the least controversial reports on the history of Imam Sajjad's life.
